I revisited this one. I wanted to do something for Halloween this year, but I forgot to post it.

I just wanted to do a post about this amazing computer I bought back in september 2013. I was in the market for a new laptop right when Wacom released their new line of Cintiqs. The one that caught my eye is called the Companion and it runs full windows 8 meaning you can put all your software on it and run just about whatever you'd like. It was a great opportunity to try something new. I had been wanting to paint digital plein air for some time now and never had the right setup to do it with. I knew this was my best bet, but wasn't sure if it would work out. There are so many variables that digital plein air artists have to consider. Your computer needs to be portable, have a long lasting battery, have enough power to run the software you like, be comfortable, have the right pen tech and drivers, and the list goes on. I had considered a couple other products but each of them had their limitations and ultimately just didn't work. After trying and failing a couple of times, I was skeptical whether Wacom had considered the limitations and had a way to resolve them in their design.
Let me tell you, it's awesome! Wacom really delivered with this product. It does just about everything I want it to do. If your a photoshop guy like me then you'll be happy to know that you can run full photoshop on this with just about all the settings you love with your desktop at home. You'll need to turn off the advanced graphics options and use smaller documents, but you dont need those things most of the time anyway. Not only photoshop, but I use zbrush and modo on it too.
I cant tell you how liberating it is to be able to leave your desk whenever you want and go work on the coach in your living room. Plein air painting is so much fun too. I dont have to worry about too much to carry. Its just a small pouch that carries everything I need. Before I got this thing, the only place I could paint was at a desk. Now I have the park, the mall, the library, the coffee shop, anywhere I want really.
Check out some of the sketches I've done in the past few months.
These ones are at the local outdoor mall called the Americana. It's so much fun to paint there. The atmosphere is tough to beat.
This was my view at church. We were far enough away from the action that I didnt feel too bad about breaking out my computer.
This was a train ride over the holidays. I had about twenty min each way to finish this one.

So I did this sketch over a year ago randomly and decided to scan it just in case I felt like painting it later. Last week I was itching to paint something for myself. I found it in my files and thought I would celebrate Halloween early this year.

Warner Brothers Studio Tour: The Making of Harry Potter won a Thea award this year. I did some illustrations for the project a few years back.
If you're ever in London and have the chance to go, I highly recommend it.
